Hi class! This week we will discuss plagiarism and how to avoid it. After completing the PASS Workshop "Cheating and Its Consequences," write about this question:
What are the academic integrity policies (in other words "no cheating rules") in your country? Do people talk about plagiarism or copying? What is acceptable, and what is unacceptable in terms of using another person's ideas or words?
Plagiarism is a very important topic in the USA. To Americans, ideas and words are seen as property. I cannot use an author's word or idea without citing the original work. People in America have to learn how to use sources in a way that shows that they are not copying. This is a very long, complicated process that takes a while to master. In fact, there are whole books devoted to citation styles and techniques. Students need to be very, very careful when using others ideas. While this isn't the case in all countries, in the USA and in the global academic community, it is expected.
In Saudi Arabia we can't copy other person's work. But I thing in elementary school there is not problem because they are young and don not know what are they doing. In my view, Saudi Arabia the same rules in the US. When I was in high school, I learned cheating is not the good way to improve yourself. On the other hand, in our religion fraud is not permissible in Islam and there is a speech form Prophet Mohammad says " Whoever deceives is not one of us". So, we have to respect our religion and don not cheat. Some people, talk about copying and they always say do not try to get other people work. Finally, cheating is trouble and you can get in illegal situation, be yourself and do your work.

ReplyDeletePlagiarism is an important issue and it happens in most the countries. Predominantly from the people do not like from their ideas to be stolen.In Kuwait no one can cheat even in high school or elementary school.And it is not a good way to improve your skills cheating. As Hammad said, in my religion called Islam it is not allow to cheat, you need to be accountable about your work and your self.I think reliable is a good feature for the person who wants to success in his life.
ReplyDeleteIt is very important that issue, because some people do not care about their education. In my opinion, when you cheat and get better score that don not mean you are a good student, the great student is that who learns form his/her mistakes.
Deletein my perspective, i think before its became everybody's issue , its individual issue. These people who steals others ideas , they don't have any idea about what will happend next, they'll fail in their whole life. cheating is not good way to pass your level even if you don't have enough time. You have to work hard, study and prepare to be in a good place in future. That what we call success. In Saudi Arabia , since we were children until now, the teachers teach us not to cheat because that what our religion is consist of, that we should never cheat.

DeletePlagiarism is not very common in my country. But it does exist in my country. For example, some students do not know the answer about the question. Then some students ask classmate even though get answer from the internet. It is not allow to plagiarism. Although teacher asks student finish homework by themselves, some students still cheat. In my opinion, it is a bad phenomenon and students should get help. Maybe teacher should talk with students and get opinion from them. Then know how to help students and how to change bad phenomenon. Students also need to change. I think they should know the negative effect on study. Cheat is very bad behavior. When you form a habit , it is difficult to break bad habits. So students have better finish homework or answer question by themselves. (kiki)

DeleteI think, whole the world are the same opinions and rules. In fact, if you do not do your work by yourself, you will be a silly person in that world, you do not do anything for yourself. So, why are you alive than?
DeleteDuring our wholelife,plagiarism is a important issue.In china,many students will take this way in case of failing in the exam,or get a good grades to satisfy their parents requirement,especially in some crucial tests,even if the school rules do not allow.For them,it is more easier to pass the exam flukly instead of studying hard.In my view,plagiarism is a bad habit for everybody.Copy others accomplishment will let us do not trust ourself.maybe we will have bad grades even if we study hard.however,never mind,believe in yourself,and try again.

DeleteSaudi Arabia is in the minds Americans a mysterious country. It is difficult to understand its traditions and culture from the basis of Western ideals and values. However, it is also a fascinating country whose society is founded on ancient religious traditions. It has orchestrated necessary cultural changes to keep pace with the rest of the world in terms of industry and technology, and has thus built and maintained a healthy economy. At the same time, it has held fast to the ideals that are so very important to the Saudis, who feel that it is these ideals that protect them from the evils that exist in Western cultures.
ReplyDeletein the case of Japan, plagiarism is very important topic and people think that stealing others idea is very bad thing. however japanese rule about cheating is weakly compare with the US. of course cheating is prohibited and if someone use others idea, they may be punished. but there are a few the eye which watch it,so it is said if you think do cheating, you can do that. actually, almost japanese don't do cheating and stealing others idea, because all japanese know fact that stealing others idea is bad thing. therefore cheating is unacceptable.

DeletePlagiarism is an important issue in my country. It exist more serious during these years. Living in the fast developing world, people have more ways to obtain the information. They could download some other people's essay or experiment data from the interent and mixed it together to form his or her 'own' essay. That is a kind of cheating and it becomes really commom in in the college. But the question is by doing like this way students may lost there independent thinking ability. And that is really bad to there future!

DeleteAs you said , I think the most important reason for plagiarism is the need of get the information quickly. People sometimes find it difficult to create their own ideas, or maybe do in a short amount of time, so they get the ideas from others and fix it

These situations are found when the ideas and the contents have something very important to teach people like a value , good quality, or something we have to be aware of in our realigion, so people tend to copy these ideas and tell them to other people , just because it importance
According plagiarism that quote all kinds of book, magazine, or reference religiously permissible. And nothing in it provided that attributed to its source and its owner. When writing recording and responding to its original source. The transport of a book, source or magazine. When authoring and the proportion of what was written by transferred from other to itself. It is forbidden by Islam and the law, which is a type of theft, while transport of ideas and writing. Developing providing ideas other and modernization is not the thing, and it applies to the theft of ideas. And opinions of scientific and religious condition that. When this question attributed the idea to its inventor creator so not like in his legitimately rule the theft of money heirlooms from hand-cut and establish the limit.
ReplyDeletePlagiarism is also an important issue in my country. When students cheat in the test, their scores will be zero and some punishments for them. Like marking cheated in the school's record. But to be honest, there are many fakes in our country. Although it is not plagiarism, but it also does harm to the legal copy.
